Volunteer testimonials

Mike (USA)

To all potential volunteers and guests of Thrive Seed and Sonu Kaur, 4 years ago I was planning my trip to India and was looking at prospective organizations to volunteer at on Facebook. I met David Umfahrer online who promised me that I would enjoy my experience volunteering and teaching at Sonu Kaur's place near New Delhi. It was one of the most rewarding and memorable experiences of my life. My original 3-week stay turned into the maximum my Visa would allow and the experience with her and the orphans that she teaches and takes care of changed my life forever. I had zero skills and not much to offer but was able to teach a little English and Math. I fell in love with the children and adopted a new Indian family. I fell in love with her boy Jolly too. He's quite a character and a bright little kid. For any of you who would like a reference or would like to ask questions about my experience, please do not hesitate to reach out to me on Facebook. I am more than happy to share my experiences with this wonderful woman, sister, mother, teacher, and role model. Best regards, Mike Fujimura

Sigrid (Norway)

"Hi! My name is Sigrid, and I am from Norway. I spent one month volunteering with Thrive Seed in the fall of 2015. It was a true pleasure to take part in the Thrive Seed project, and to see all the good things Sonu and the Thrive Seed staff do for their community. I grew to love this project, and I would defiently recommend it to everyone. Also, being a solo female traveller, I got the opportunity to stay with Sonu and her family. Their hospitality and friendliness made me feel very comfortable, and I could not have stayed at a better place in India! I also loved to see Sonu sharing, caring and helping all the time; she really makes you belive in the good nature of humans."

I met Sonu a few years ago when I visited Delhi and volunteered at the schools she is in charge of. Her energy to keep on working to help her community is unique. The children are always asking to learn more everyday and everyone is thankfull of volunteers getting involved. It was a life changing experience for me and I recommend that everyone gets involved either volunteering or donating. I hope I can go back to see everyone and volunteer once again. Thanks Sonu and everyone I got to know in Delhi for being so nice to me and made me feel like home <3 :) Missing my Indian Family.

Hope (USA)

I was blessed to intern at Thrive Seed for 4 incredible months. During that time I lived with a local host family nearby and walked to the school every day for afternoon class. The students’ enthusiasm for learning was so striking and it gave me renewed energy each day. Although it was my job to teach them, they ended up teaching me just as much. Every child, every teacher was an inspiration. Time was my friend, and the longer I was there, the more that the culture was revealed to me and the more I felt integrated at Wahoe. I don’t regret a second of it!

Steve (USA)

I am Stephen from the U.S.A. Seeing the different cultures and experiencing first hand in the home stay experience has been incredible. The children in each location brought joy to my heart and they all learn so quickly! This experience has opened my eyes and I hope to be a part of the Thrive Seed projects in the future.

I came to Sonu's organisation as a couchsurfer (www.couchsurfing.com) in January 2013. I was planning to stay only for few days and helping a bit. But I was so inspired by Sonu's work for those who are in need that I decided to stay as a volunteer for a month teaching English and math for her school project. It was an unforgettable experience. The organisation is in constant need of money, but through the persistancy of Sonu she keeps doing her work for the children and the ladies through all the difficulties. This lady has a heart which is pure gold. This world would be a lot better place if there would be more people like her. She's been helping so many people over the years. She has a strong vision to provide education for children who's parents cannot pay for it and also educating ladies to make them more independent and able to help their families. I would highly recommend this organisation for volunteering and making donations. I've been giving small donations to this organisation every once in a while and I recommend you to do the same. I higly trust this lady that she puts the money in good use in her projects.
